Most of us are looking forward to one thing and one thing only this holiday season: decorating for Christmas. It’s that time of the year again when we start looking through our closets, grabbing that old box of decorations in the attic, and scouring nearby stores to find last-minute gifts.
Many people have a tough time deciding what type of decorations to buy. Do you go with the traditional Christmas tree or one of the modern fad trees? That shiny snowman or the ugly, fat Santa? The answer: it’s not so simple. You don’t want to change too much and risk ruining your holiday decorating theme; you also don’t want to stick with tradition just because it is tradition.
So how can you find the best place to buy decorations and holiday decor that is fun, festive but still keeps with your holiday decorating theme?
Buy from a wholesaler.
Whole sale retailers sell your favorite grocery store’s rejects for a fraction of the price. If you are looking for some last-minute gift items, take a chance and buy them from a wholesaler rather than from the grocery store. Watch out for “wholesale” prices because several of these places deliver only to their location, so you may not get all of what you ordered.
Hit the thrift shop.
Most people avoid thrift stores because they are cheap and other shoppers tend to sell items below their original price. However, a few of them have great Christmas decorations on display that are so tacky they are fun. With a little imagination, you could turn an ugly piece like a ceramic Santa into an awesome holiday decorating item in just a matter of minutes.
Buy used or vintage.
If you are not sure if your item is something that will last more than a day before it looks like something else, look for older or vintage items. A lot of these items are sold online and can be shipped directly to your home, making this a great purchase.
